Adirondack Is Back - The Popular New (Old) Fad In Outdoor Furniture!
It's not surprising that a vintage American design like the Adirondack Chair has made a comeback in just the last couple of years. This fad is quickly spreading because folks all around America are choosing to spend more and more time relaxing and kicking back in their thoughtfully created outdoor living area. I myself remember as a 6 year old, sinking completely into one of these old familiar chairs, with my legs hanging just barely over the edge, while grandpa and I peeled apples and discussed the apple pie piled high with ice cream that we knew my granny was going to have for us after dinner that night. With lemonade on the wide arm rest, the breeze was warm and gentle. When Grandpa told stories, time flew by. It really is no mystery why we like to unwind outside, whether it is on the deck, out on the patio, out on the porch, or in your garden area. There just isn't a better way to do that than to sit down in a high backed, comfortable, deep seated Adirondack chair and leave your troubles behind.
So exactly where did this little bit of Americana come from? The Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, of course. This furniture design was prevalent at the numerous vacation resorts and mountain retreats that were so fashionable back in the day. By the 40's you could see Adirondack furniture everywhere. The furniture trend spread to the south and headed west quickly. As the Adirondack design got more popular, and made its way around the country, regional influences started to show up. The furniture design was given to many styles of outdoor furniture including; benches, gliders, porch swings, rocking chairs, and because of our Canadian neighbors, a piece called the "tete a tete" which means literally; "head to head". This fanciful design incorporates two chairs and a table between them constructed as one piece. What a pleasant way to spend a cozy Saturday afternoon with someone you love!
You're going to be happy and amazed to find a great variety of Adirondack style furniture that's available today. The original furniture style has not only stood the winds of time, but the whole Adirondack craze has exploded with a great supply of material, styles, colors, and finishes. Traditional Adirondack furniture is constructed with wood that is known for resisting insects and corrosion like cherry, cypress, oak, or red or white cedar. The wood selected varies by location as do specific furniture designs. A popular addition to classic Adirondack is deck or patio furnishings constructed using polymer "lumber" that is literally made from recycled plastic packaging, milk jugs, and such. This is not only an environmentally sound way to purchase your furniture, but you'll also have some advantages with durableness, longevity, easy care, and your colors aren't going to pale as the pigments are mixed through the plastic with UV inhibitors added for protection.
